Navigating the lake area in Chapter 4 of the Resident Evil 4 remake presents players with several challenging survival mechanics and intricate environmental puzzles. Among these hurdles are the Stone Dais pedestals, which guard crucial key items needed to advance through the main storyline. Understanding how to read the cave markings and activate the correct symbols on these pedestals is essential for obtaining the items required to unlock the church.

Locating the Stone Dais Pedestals

During Chapter 4, players gain free access to a motorboat to explore the expansive lake region. Two distinct Stone Dais pedestals are located in separate areas across the water: one inside the Small Cave Shrine to the northeast and another within the Large Cave Shrine to the southwest. Each location features a locked door controlled by an eight-button dial mechanism built into a stone altar.

Reaching these shrines requires careful navigation, as the Large Cave Shrine contains hostile villagers while the Small Cave Shrine offers a safe environment focused purely on exploration. Approaching the Stone Dais at either location will reveal the central puzzle console where specific combinations must be entered.

Deciphering the Cave Wall Symbols

The solution for each Stone Dais is hidden in plain sight, painted as glowing yellow symbols on the surrounding cave walls and structures. In the Large Cave Shrine, players must observe three painted symbols from specific perspectives, as some are split across pillars or walls. The required inputs on the pedestal correspond to the top-right, bottom, and top-left symbols on the dial.

For the Small Cave Shrine, the yellow symbols are also split across wooden structures and stone formations, requiring players to climb the ladder to align their view correctly. Pressing the bottom-left, left, and bottom-right buttons on this pedestal unlocks the shrine door. Inputting the combinations in any sequence will open the respective locks successfully.

Required Items Obtained from the Puzzles

Solving the Large Cave Shrine Stone Dais puzzle rewards players with the Apostate's Head key item. Meanwhile, completing the Small Cave Shrine puzzle grants access to the Blasphemer's Head. Both key items are required to solve the broader Mural Cave objective.

Once both heads are collected, players must return to the Mural Cave near the central lake area. Placing both the Apostate's Head and the Blasphemer's Head onto the two large stone hands awards the Church Insignia. This final key opens the gates to the church, allowing Leon to continue his rescue mission.
